Science model - Electromagnetic generator (Charkha)

Videos

See the science model video of the science experiment of electromagnetic generator in the form of a charkha. This educational video has been created by Khula Aasmaan at Science Park, Pune.

Concept and working of Electromagnetic generator

  1. The electric charge in conductors is movable.
  2. Whenever a circle of wire surrounds a magnetic field, and if the magnetic field then changes voltage appears.
  3. The faster the magnetic field changes, the larger the voltage develops.
  4. The circular voltage tries to force the movable charges inside the wire to rotate around the circle.
  5. Due to this voltage, current is induced.
  6. A moving magnet can create an electric current in a closed circuit. The effect is called Electromagnetic Induction.
  7. This effect is used by all coil/magnet electric generators.
