150 Years of Income Tax

Art Exhibition & Workshop at Pune on the theme "Nation Building through Income Tax"

 

Background of the Event

 

On the occasion of completion of 150 years in India, Income Tax Department organised a series of unique initiatives.

 

These include an Art Exhibition, an art workshop by 14 city based professional artists and creation of a large canvas collectively by officers and staff of Income Tax Department as well as other visiting dignitaries.

 

The art exhibition and workshop was inaugurated by Shri. S. K. Jha, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax - II. Shri. Jha underlined the importance of Income Tax as an important contributor to the national kitty and as a significant catalyst for the national development and infrastructure creation. Shri. D. P. Sharma, Commissioner of Income Tax welcomed all the guests and explained the concept and spirit behind the unique celebrations being organised by Income Tax Department. Other prominent dignitaries who graced the occasion included Shri. B. G. Deshmukh, Former Cabinet Secretary, Govt. Of India, Shri. Mohansingh Rajpal, Mayor of Pune, Smt. Meeran Borwankar, Commissioner of Police, Pune and several other prominent personalities from all walks of life. After the inaugural event, all dignitaries as well as officers and staff of Income Tax department headed to the large canvas which has been specially put up at Bal Gandharv Kaladalan. Everyone contributed a few brush strokes to this canvas which is getting created with the theme “Nation Building through Income Tax". Shri. Kishor Ranadiwe, a senior artist from Pune supervised this project.

 

The art workshop commenced after the inaugural event and saw 14 city based professional artists take part. All artists were invited to work on the theme "Nation Building through Income Tax". The artists were briefed by Shri. Milind Vishwas Sathe of Indiaart who has acted as an advisor and curator for this project. A panel of three judges examined all the completed works and selected two paintings for special recognition.

 

The culmination of this project was done by way of a neatly organised Closing Ceremony on Tuesday 21st September at 6 p.m. at Bal Gandharv Kaladalan. All the invitees appreciated the artworks created by the artists during the 2 day Art Workshop as well as the large canvas (5' x 15') that was collectively created by the officers and staff of Income Tax department as well as other dignitaries. All the participating artists as well as the judges were felicitated by Shri. S. K. Jha, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax.
