Indiaart Gallery, Pune hosted the exhibition of paintings by Madhav Satwalekar from 4th to 30th January 2004. Here is the invitation card of the exhibition - front and back side.
Madhav Satwalekar completed his diploma studies at Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai. He was awarded the Mayo medal in 1935. He completed post graduate studies in 1937. He further studied in Europe (1937-40) at Florence Academy at Florence (Italy), The Slade School, London (U.K.) and Académie de la Grande Chaumière, Paris (France).
He held his first one man solo exhibition in Mumbai in 1945. Founded Indian Art Institute in 1954. Was chairman of Bombay Art Society from 1962-68. Was President of the Federation of Art Institutions from 1960-69. He was Director of Art, Maharashtra State from 1969-75.
Interaction with children and artists
Madhav Satwalekar took a keen interest in the working of Indiaart Gallery and the art workshops for children. He also interacted with several artists and art students.
Conversation with Madhav Satwalekar
Indiaart Gallery organised an important event during the stay of Madhav Satwalekar at Pune. We arranged an open interview with Madhav Satwalekar as a large number of art students as well as artists were keen to listen to him and know his views on several aspects of art, education and art practice. We requested Pune based artist Shri. Ravi Paranjape conducted this interview which lasted for more than an hour. Madhav Satwalekar happily answered all the questions by the interviewer as well as the questions passed on to him by the audience. The open air amphitheatre was a packed house that day.
