Madhavi Srivastava

Artist Madhavi Srivastava Artist Statement :

To me, art is an expression of human creative skills and imagination and the art of painting portray the act or result of the creative imagination. Every time I take a blank canvas, I feel as if I have been provided with a blank planet on which I can create a life on my own whims and fancies and that makes me to reach a stage of self actualisation where in, I feel complete.

I am a management graduate from the very prestigious and renowned Manipal University, Manipal post which I had the opportunity of earning rich experience while working with various MNCs. After a very satisfying professional experience, I settled down in Mumbai with hubby Niraj.

I am a self taught painter with an artistic bent of mind from the very childhood and have been fortunate to have the understanding of colours without any formal education on arts which I just think is a divine blessing and my love for it. Painting is where I find most of my happiness and creative fulfilment. I believe that painting keeps me calm and let me retain in a continuous state of happiness. I am mostly inspired by the beauty which nature has in it and try to bring them out on canvas. I love bright colours and feel that colours manifest and inspire the most. These colours can guide our lives, and help us discern what colours around us mean. They can give us clues and messages in this amazing world. How bland and unexciting it would be without colours in this world!!!. They light up our surroundings, and inspires us to be creative. Also, we can learn many things from the natural colours we see and what they symbolize. Red always represents action, vigour, passion, and anger, which are all very active feelings. On the other hand, yellow reminds us of bright, energetic things…the sun, for example. Yellow calls our attention, green tells us to go, and reminds us of health, growth and nature. I simply love playing with colours on canvas as it means prayer to me and nothing else. It connects me to the divine and give me immense pleasure.

My education took me to several beautiful places in India where I had always been thrilled and artistically motivated by the beauty of nature……the perfect destination for a rendezvous with nature. For my schooling, I had been to Jamshedpur and Ranchi which are blessed by the almighty. ‘The Land of Forests’ as Jharkhand is famously called, is heaven for nature lovers. The unparalleled beauty of the state with majestic hills, scenic waterfalls, rich greenery and colourful culture makes your visit to the land memorable. My higher education at Manipal (Udupi, Karnataka) gave me an excellent exposure to view nature at its best. Udupi, as they call it, is the land of celestial beauty where the days dazzle and nights sizzle and where natural beauty lives next door. One can find a blazing lay-out temples, splendid architecture, rolling hill chains, pure forests, unending beaches and very friendly people. These places had certainly shaped my imaginations and finally I landed into a tête-a-tête with their attractiveness on canvas.

As an artist, I feel that each artwork is a wonderful interpretation and has something to convey whatever theme it depicts be it a natural landscape, human emotions, culture, themes from everyday life etc. I do not want to restrict my brushes to a water tight compartment rather want to touch themes from various subject matters, thereby giving wings to my imagination.
