Remarks
Lakadima the leopard, A hunter feared By wildebeests, warthogs, And many a deer. One fine evening With the mambas hissing, The baboon clan noticed One of them was missing. For her pray again Lakadima had caught, And choked its gullet As she had been taught. As the baboon breathed Its last breaths quail, Something shook From under its tail. From underneath Its tail appeared A nascent baboon With blood all smeared. Too small to eat, Too fragile to shew, Kill it or leave it, What would she do? Having smelt the rotting flesh Of a dead baboon’s corpse Came a hungry hyena Who lacked all remorse. The hyena spotted The tiny baboon And the little thing Was staring at doom. But lo she came With a threatening growl, And the hyena fled With a temper foul. The two then cuddled In the pink twilight, And dozed off into The Savannah’s night. Lakadima the leopard, Killed only to feed, For beasts are free of The vice of greed.
