Experiment as language of Science, essay by Sahil Nagvekar

Shortlisted science essay from Khula Aasmaan essay contest for children

Essay by child scientist Sahil Nagvekar, class 8, Mukul Madhav Vidyalaya, Golap, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra

This essay is part of the shortlist from Science day 2019 essay competition for children. This children’s essay competition was organised by Khula Aasmaan and Science Park, Pune.

Findings, inventions and concepts of science can be proved. It does not depend on philosophy alone. It can be always explained by performing experiments. Experiment is a method or process which can explain or prove any concept of science.

Experiment such as Newton’s cradle, periscope, kaleidoscope, making the chemicals equivalent by phenolphthalein, etc. In the Neutron’s cradle experiment there are 5 balls connected to two threads and mini iron stand from two sides. The balls are closely arranged such that they touch each other. Then we have to take one side’s ball far from the other balls and leave it. We will see that when we leave the ball, it pushes the other balls but the middle three balls do not move but the last ball goes away and again comes back have a collision but the middle thanes ball again do not move but the last ball again goes away. This process continues for a long time then it stops. This happens because of the energy which is transferred from one end to the other end. By this experiment we come to know the concept that energy cannot be created nor be destroyed but it can be transferred from one form to another.

Really, without experiments science is nothing, we cannot understand anything about science. If there were no experiments, science would have not known the secrets of wonderful Earth and its blessings. But we should not make these blessings a curse in future. So, we should carefully handle and conserve science. As a coin has two sides, science also has a good and a bad side. So, we should always focus on the positive side !
