Banaras paintings by Chitra Vaidya

This painting by Chitra Vaidya was sold recently. Chitra Vaidya, who is part of Professional Artists section in Indiaart.com, has done several paintings on Banaras (Varanasi) - on canvas as well as watercolours. This particular painting has managed to recreate the impressions of the ghats at Banaras without getting into too many architectural details of the subject. The choice of the palette used and the brushwork has resulted into this painting which presents to the viewer the essential aspects that Banaras is known for - The ghats on the banks of river Ganga (Ganges), the steps of the ghat leading to the river, the energy of so many people performing their rituals, the architectural grandeur of the temples, their heritage and history. Banaras is the continuum of the ancient history, heritage and faith.

Banaras has the magic to fascinate artists and photographers, who get drawn in to this ancient city which has been around for 2500 years and thriving. Chitra Vaidya mentions that she intends to capture more facets of this wonderful ancient city civilisation.
