History & Background of watercolour painting
Watercolor painting was developed in England around 200 years ago. During the 18th century, European artists formed an organization of watercolour artists. After the establishment of this organization, it attained the status of an important form of painting. British artist Joseph Turner, Girtin, John Constable and Colman were the leading artists who took initiative in forming this organization. They showed their works in an international Art exhibition held in Paris in 1855 and the work in watercolours was appreciated by all. During 1881, Queen Victoria conferred the name Royal Watercolour Society to this organisation. Other eminent watercolor artists are John Sargent, Winslow Homer, Willam Flint and others who took this art to new heights. Edward Siego, Edward Wesson, John Pike’s era was considered as the golden era of watercolor painting.
