Prafulla was born in Goa, the picturesque land of art and music. She graduated in Fine Arts from the Sir J.J. School of Art, Bombay, winning a Gold Medal in 1955. Since then she has had more than 45 exhibitions of her paintings. She is now one of the most senior woman artists of India.
She has held several exhibitions in India and her paintings are in the collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, the Central Museum, Nagpur and the Prince of Wales Museum, Mumbai, as well as several institutional and private collections all over the world.She has also participated in several international exhibitions in many countries: Hungary, Switzerland, Germany, Australia, Japan, Iceland and France. She has had individual sponsored shows in Lisbon, Portugal and London, UK.
Prafulla has made a substantive contribution to the art movement in India. She has served on Art Societies and Institutions for the last 4 decades. She was the President of Bombay Art Society and Vice Chairman of the Artist's Center, Mumbai. For last 30 decades, she has been on the committee of Kala Akademi, Goa and presently is President of the Art Society of India. She was a committee member of the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, in 1974-79.
Although she is a recognized painter, she has to her credit many murals in a variety of media like ceramics, fiberglass, wood and glass which adorn the walls of many prominent buildings in Mumbai, Pillani and Muscat, Oman.
Prafulla loves Indian classical music and has a deep insight of ragas. Prafulla has two daughters very much interested in art as herself. |
