Kolkata
The cricket fever takes over art also. Ramzan Ali, a poster
artist of Kolkata, has caught the cricket mania of the Indo-Pak Series.
He is busy creating pencil on paper poster portraits of Indian & Pakistani
cricketers. Ramzan sits by the roadside making these exquisite portraits
that are selling like hot cakes. And surprise, surprise the most
popular and in demand poster is that of Shoaib Akhtar rather than any
of our superstars including Sachin & the Prince of Kolkata!
Chennai AV Ilango is exhibiting a series on women called
Surrender. The bright coloured paintings with angular forms
in various moods show the female form in all its strength. The artist
links this to his earlier show on Bulls and says that this series depicts
womens challenge to the male ego.

New York
This February & March saw Indian Artist Shuvaprasanna exhibiting
at Arts India Gallery in Chelsea New York. The artists work, which seems
to be quite influenced by Tanjore style and a lot on Radha Krishna themes,
found an appreciative audience in New York.
