News Snippets – March 2004

Kolkata – The cricket fever takes over art also. Ramzan Ali, a poster artist of Kolkata, has caught the cricket mania of the Indo-Pak Series. He is busy creating pencil on paper poster portraits of Indian & Pakistani cricketers. Ramzan sits by the roadside making these exquisite portraits that are selling like hot cakes. And surprise, surprise – the most popular and in demand poster is that of Shoaib Akhtar rather than any of our superstars including Sachin & the Prince of Kolkata!

Chennai – AV Ilango is exhibiting a series on women called “Surrender”. The bright coloured paintings with angular forms in various moods show the female form in all its strength. The artist links this to his earlier show on Bulls and says that this series depicts women’s challenge to the male ego.

Delhi – Manoj Jain’s B&W photo exhibition is on in March 04. The artist cum photographer blends all his abstract art into his photography. Subtly using light and shade and various forms the photographer creates a visual delight

New York – This February & March saw Indian Artist Shuvaprasanna exhibiting at Arts India Gallery in Chelsea New York. The artists work, which seems to be quite influenced by Tanjore style and a lot on Radha Krishna themes, found an appreciative audience in New York.
