Artist believes that the animal like qualities & instinct is present in each one of us may be less or more.We try to hide this animal instinct acting superficially because of fear of the society. But somehow or other this instinct gets reflected due to our unfulfilled desire, wants & deeds. God gave us a beautiful life as human being, but sometimes we behave worse than animals. |

| I completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Buddhist studies in 2005. I attend regular meetings and discussions on the various principles of Buddhism. On my last visit to The Tashi Jong monastery in Himachal Pradesh. I had the opportunity to interact with monks who were being prepared for their journey towards the eternal truth. The series starts with a humble offering to the Buddha through the first series titled The Little Buddha, which expresses the various moods of the little monks. The series ends with my signature figurative forms of the pilgrims, all bright and colorful celebrating the very essence of life. In these paintings I have as always depicted the everyday facets of life. |

The earliest wellknown master - painter of Kolhapur was Abalal Rahiman who was popular as Abalal - master. Abalal was sent by his father to Bombay to join Sir J. J. School of Art. Abalal was very much pleased with the atmosphere in the Art - School and with full devotion and sincerity he tried to learn.
The Sir J. J. School of Art curriculum gave importance to drawing. Naturally Abalal was trained to handle pencil, crayon and charcoal very well. Though Abalal was expert in handling various techniques, his favourite medium was water colour. His paintings show the appropriate effect of the sunlight and environment. Abalal was a fan of natural beauty. He painted many landscapes. He also painted few portraits. |

Almelkar was rooted in the folk art tradition and took his inspiration from Ajanta's mural style. His water colour works are striking for their depiction of rural life which he portrayed with great feeling. His eye for details, costume and manner gave his art a rich resonance.
He achieved great harmony in expressing folk forms with a modern approach. He took great pains to study Adivasi art and incorporate it in his oeuvre. He used dynamic forms with rhythmic strokes and bright colour schemes in thick impasto which resonated with vibrant energy. His art was very textured and he worked almost obsessively in this idiom. Among his most famous creations were "Fishermen", "Adivasi" and "Village Road". A large body of his work can be seen in the collection of the National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai. |
