Born : 3rd December 1973
Born and brought up in Goa, painting, sculpture and photography are Mandar’s passions. He has been drawing, painting and making clay models since early age. As he has not undergone any formal education in art, he has evolved his art by attending some weekend classes, watching demonstrations given by prominent artists, reading books, visiting galleries and exhibitions and by browsing the internet.
He started painting with watercolors first but quickly went on to use oils and then acrylics. The textural feel that oil and acrylic mediums can produce is a property that attracts him to these materials over watercolor. Be it landscapes or still life paintings, for him the inspiration for any painting is always from nature.
He makes Ganesh idols with clay every year just before ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ festival but has not been able to spend more time in sculpting due to the medium’s demand for space and firing equipment.
Somewhere at the beginning of 2008, he came across a movement on the internet called a “a painting a day” which is about doing a small painting everyday and posting it on a blog. As it was difficult for him to make a painting everyday due to his job timings, he decided to make a painting on every weekend and has been doing so for most of the weekends ever since.
He has done two solo exhibitions till date in Goa and participated in several group shows in Pune. His works are in private collections of individuals and corporates in India and abroad.
By profession, he is a mechanical and software engineer and works in the software industry in Pune.
