Why Write A Book?

The idea of a book was dismissed by me many times for the simple reason that I had not considered myself a writer. I have stories that I believe interest people but they usually get expressed in anything but an eloquent manner. I stumble over inappropriate words and get lost in my incoherent thoughts. This book is my modest attempt to open people’s minds to the possibility of ambition, to embrace challenges in life and to condemn prejudices.

I have countless friends dotted around the globe who for fear of change or the unknown have condemned themselves to careers based on peer pressure, family expectations or basic bad education. To me one’s priorities should never be to please or impress anyone else but to chase a truly fulfilling life. Some argue that I have been fortunate to be able to chase my dreams but what they don’t realise is all but the most downtrodden possess the same opportunities. Of course some have more hurdles to conquer but inequality is merely yet another challenge and not a determining factor of one’s fate. I often feel a tinge of guilt seeing other less fortunately placed people struggle to survive but to condemn my own life to their level would be an insult to them and to my parents who created this life of opportunity for me.

I wanted to present the thoughts of an average Irish man who takes his conditioning and contrasts it in an unbiased manner to others of different circumstance. I humbly put forth my thoughts and anecdotes in the hope that people will both enjoy and take something simple from them into their own lives. No other agenda but friendship.
