Shashikant Patade

Born in 1953 Completed his G.D. Art from the Raheja School of art Mumbai in 1979. To date he has several group shows & corporate collections. For some artists, observation & painting directly from the subjects, carefully documenting a lifestyle & culture is what inspires them. For Patade, the Rajasthan landscape & its people is a subjective reality in this particular series of paintings. Patade has previously been inspired by the Konkan region, which he also painted prolifically. Through his canvases one can take a heritage walk through a Rajasthan that abounds in natural beauty. Be it enjoying a camel-buggy ride in the desert, or a horse carriage amble through an old city steeped in historical heritage. The fabled palaces & havelis with their archways, ornate carvings, graceful gateways & intricate latticed screens & walls with shafts of sun light streaming through creating equally intricate shadows. The Rajasthani's love for bright colours, from their scarlet or fuschia pink trubans to the royal Jaipuri blue or peacock green skirts & saries, off sets the starkness of the desert in Patade's canvases. He revels in intricate detailing & the fascinating play of light & shade, which is particularly interesting, given the strong sun light in Rajasthan. In this exhibition his works on Rajasthan will be on display.
