He has completed G. D. Art & A. M. from J.J. Art School, Mumbai.

He is recipient of Awards from Bombay Art Society and Art Society of India.

He was President of Pune’s famous Tulshibaug Ganesh Mandal for 55 years. He was appointed by Maharashtra State Art Director as inspection incharge for Art Schools in Maharashtra. He has established a trust for giving scholarships for needy and promising art students from Art Colleges in Maharashtra. He has taken part in many Solo and Group exhibitions in Pune, Mumbai, Kolhapur , Nashik and Nagpur.

He was conferred as “Kala Maharshi” for his contribution towards Art Education on the occasion of his 25th birthday.

Prof. Khatavkar has done equal contribution in Sculpture, Painting & art education.
