Kajal Bhattacharya

Artist Statement :

Painting has always been my passion. I am a qualified teacher and have also studied art in depth. I obtained a degree in Bachelor of Arts (History and Sanskrit) from Calcutta University in 1977, a diploma in a teachers training course from S.I.E.S. Mumbai in 1984, a diploma in Garment technology from Apeejay School Nerul in 1993, and a diploma in Fine arts from Rabindra Bharati University in 2009.

In my professional career, I have worked as a primary school teacher at Bharatiya Vidyapeeth School, Mumbai, from1984-1989. Additionally, I have also been actively involved in organizing cultural events for Vashi Cultural association, Navi Mumbai including: designing stage backdrops and pandal murals. I also take pleasure in designing wedding cards, giving them a fine artistic touch. Over the last ten years, I have delved deeper into the subject of Fine Arts and taken formal guidance to hone her skills further under the guidance of Mrs. Bonani Bhowmick and Debjani Datta.

Art for me is one of the best mediums of story-telling. Surealism teaches you to paint emotions, attach an object, place or event ti it. It is also about bringing together contrasting images and ideas in a manner that convey feelings meaningfully.

My main area of interest lies in painting still lives, the different hues of nature and seasons and cultural festivities and celebrations of life. My art is characterized by vibrant colors, contrasting shapes, and bold compositions. My latest work is a series called Divinity, which is inspired by spiritual quest, has been well accepted both in India and the US.
