Dr. Shireesh Dharap has maintained his interest in painting through the years of undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He is a true nature lover, studying the art and science of nature. He is a keen bird watcher with an avid interest in the field of botany and geology. It is but natural, therefore, that this love for nature is expressed in his art. He mainly points landscapes, as also some still life. He concentrates on interpretation, simplification and representation of scenes from nature and houses in harmony with nature.
He works in oils, acrylic, transparent water colours and pastels. He paints the effects of light and time in his work, endeavouring to capture a sense of the time of day and season of the year in his paintaings.
From an abstract point of view, he introduces an interlocking of shapes and colours in his painting, dividing the picture space in an interest in and harmonious way.
The scale of his painting varies from "found" still life in a corner of a room, right up to visit as of the Himalaya stretching for miles. Since he is interested in the effects of light, shade & light from an important element of his paintings. He works out doors in front of his subject, as well as indoors from sketches & photographs.
He is largely self taught and has been influenced by Cezanne, Monet & Bendre. His direction now is towards greater simplification, abstraction and freedom of handling. He believes that his paintings should represent the positive values of life and please and soothe the viewer.
