| Carmel Berkson |
Carmel Berkson studied history at Duke and Columbia University in the U. S. A. but she soon became focused on the creation of statues in clay, wood, plaster and welded metal sheet. On a trip to India in 1970, Carmel came face to face, in their indigenous context, with the entirely different aesthetic of the cave and temple sculptures here. Having become fascinated by the country's sculptural traditions, Carmel Berkson's main focus on study during the past forty years has been the aesthetics and form life of Indian art. |

To enjoy the moments, with ease and pleasure are the basic subjects of my sculptures. I prefer to choose the themes, with which I have enjoyed myself in my childhood. Climbing on trees, playing with a wheel, running in the countryside, sister chasing her brother, child with a puppy and several such themes have been my favourire ones. Today when I have crossed forty, I get my theme inspirations from my daughter's childhood. Her doll taking a nap in her tricycle is an excellent example of this. The compulsions of today’s fast paced life have driven our minds miles away from emotions.
