Maqbool Fida Husain born in September 1915 in Pandharpur. His early education was in Indore. In 1935, M. F. Husain joined the Sir J. J. School of Arts. During 1937 to 1941 he was painting cinema hoardings and designer of toys and furniture in Mumbai to earn money. In 1947 he had his first exhibition at the Bombay Art Society . In 1947, he joined the Progressive Artists' Group. During 1948 to 1950 he had a series of exhibitions of his paintings all over India. In 1956, his paintings were exhibited in Prague and Zurich. In 1966 M.F. Husain was awarded ‘Padmashree’ by the Government of India. In 1967 he won ‘The Golden Bear’ at the International Film Festival in Berlin, for his first documentary 'Through the Eyes of a Painter'. His most interesting series of Paintings were on Film Star Madhuri Dixit. He also made a film "Gajagamini" with Madhuri Dixit. He had made another film , "Meenaxi-A Tale of 3 Cities.

| Yashwant Shirwadkar |
Yashwant Shirwadkar was born in 1951 in Mumbai. In 1977 he completed his diploma in 'Drawings and Paintings' at the Art College in Maharashtra. Since then Shirwadkar has been prolifically exhibiting his impressionistic landscapes. Oil on canvas is this artist's favourite medium, although he has painted several watercolours as well. Sometimes a palette knife instead of the regular brushes serves as a tool in helping him to create his realistic landscapes.
Shirwadkar's most frequent works are scenes from the city of Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, India. Most Hindus consider Varanasi a holy city, as the River Ganges flows through it. In Shirwadkar's paintings we see this city in all of its glory. |

| Manu Parekh |
Manu Parekh, a modern artist born in Ahmedabad in 1939 in Gujarat. He got the Diploma in Drawing and Painting from Sir J. J. School of Art, Bombay, in 1962. Manu started as a stage actor in Bombay and designed stage-sets in Ahmedabad. Till 1974 he worked as a Design Consultant at the Handicraft and Handloom Export Corporation of India, New Delhi. He has done several exhibitions in India and Abroad. His works were presented at the auctions of Sotheby's, Bombay (1989) Andasprey (U.K.) in 1991.
As an art designer and consultant for Indian handicrafts he travelled in France, Italy, Belgium, Holland and Germany in 1976, and took an exhibition of Indian handicrafts to Mongolia and went on a cultural tour in the USSR in 1980.

| Vasudeo Smart |
Born on July 17, 1925 in Surat, Vasudeo was among the tallest Gujarati artists. In 1948, he took a diploma in painting, standing third in order of merit. In 1949, he was a fellow in Sir J.J.School of Arts, after having worked for a year as an art teacher at Sarvajanik Education Society in Surat. In 1951, he came back to work for seven years at Jeevan Bharati in Surat. Between 1958 and 1960,he went to the B.H.U as a scholar sponsored by the Government of India to study in the fine arts section under Mr Ahivasi. Then he spent a year in Ahmedabad, teaching at the CN College of fine arts. In 1962, he went back to Banaras as lecturer in painting and remained there upto 1985,rising to become a Reader in Painting. A lifelong art teacher who spent more than a quarter century as reader in Indian painting at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU), he was completely at ease with young and old alike. Vasudeo found patterns, beauty, texture and colours. |
