My Photography interest began in Shantiniketan, where my local guardian, Mrs. S.K. Dey, a highly artistic person in her own right, would lend me her LICA camera. Armed with this professional equipment, I would stroll through the Santhal villages on the outskirts of the Vishwabharati campus, and capture beautiful images of these beautiful people in Black & White. I took photographs of urban life in Ahmedabad, details of Architecture, People in and around our campus, portfolio/ still life shots & rural life in Gujarat and Rajasthan. While at NID, I had access to vastly experienced Photographers and Designers, both on campus and as visiting Faculty. I participated in photo shoots with Designer ISSEY MIYAKES team and MUZAFFER ALI, who was in and out of the campus and who I had many hour of discussions with, this is only to state a few. These Gurus, had a profound influence on my capability to visualise and observe thinks as I do today. This was followed by a few years spent in the advertising world, working with top notch professional photographers, and then in the publication business. Subsequently, 12 years spent in Europe gave me an opportunity to travel and photograph awe-inspiring scenes, in cities around the world. From America to China, with many stops amid. Photography is an art form that I enjoy immensely. I call it my micro eye. It is the world as I see it- details that make up a whole. |
