Self thought artist Gautam Mukharjii, was born in 1960 in Kolkata. In the last two decades, starting from his 1st solo exhibition in 1983, to his very recent successful showing at the 'Jamaat' art gallery, Mumbai in 2005, Mukharjii has involved a very distinctive style of his own, with his nostalgic portaits of Bengali culture and simple family values.
His paintings revolve around family 'bondings'. Bondings, between father and child, husband and wife, grandparents playing with their grandchildren.
Mukhrjii has participated in many group shows and has several solo shows to his credit. His paintings have won many awards, such as the 'Gold Medal' from the Kangawa World Art Exhibition in Japan in 1997 and the best selected Mascot winner of Vishwa Banga Sammelan Millenium Committee in association of Bengal and North America 1999-2000.
Today his paintings are in the collection of many private and co-operate collecters.
Mukharjii's paintings have also been auctioned at the 'Akanksha Art Auction' in Mumbai 2003, 'Anjali for Akanskha' in New York, 2004 and 'The Show of Contemporary Indian Art' in London, 2002.
