Mumbai based Dattaprassana Rane, spent his childhood and youth in the lush regions of Kokan.
He completed his G.D. Art from J. J. School of Art and Raheja School of Art in 1977.
Rane has held several solo shows in 1988, 91, 93, 95, 98 and exhibited in many galleries across the country.
In 1991, he took is work to the triennale of South Korea.
His paintings are also in the collections of the National Gallery, Singapore and La Salle Art Gallery, Paris.
Rane's paintings are a reflection of his observations of the richness of the Kokan.
The colours, the people, the landscape and birds are all there, in every reserve of his being.
His paintings are a record of his day of day observations, coupled with his memories, never looking at the negative aspects, only painting the positive side of life.
When Rane begins his creations, he stands in front of the empty white canvas, with no pre-conceived ideas, his mind as blank as the canvas in front of him.
From the moment he loads his brush with colour and touches it to the canvas, everything beings to fall in line.
Somewhere from deep within, the painting begins to take shape.
Rane believes strongly in relationships, man – woman, brother – sister, the earth and the gods above, nature in full bloom; these are ingrained in his psyche and all his visions and paintings are about this.
Art artic Dayanand Nadkarni has said, that Rane is perhaps one of the few paintings of his generation who can claim a complete mastery over the orchestration of colour and texture.

The outline of human forms that he projects glow in a kind of misty light.
There is a fragile, ethereal quality, to the figures he paints.
Rane has not been influenced by any teacher, his paintings to-day, are the result of long hours of disciplined work with his paintbrush.
