Artist and activist Shyamali was born in 1940. She is the daughter of great artist Sudhir Khastagir. Being a student of Kala Bhavana, Santiniketan in early
fifties – Shyamali bears a versatile personality with deep interest in folk art and crafts, specially Alpona, Paper cutting, Doll making etc. She wrote a
lot of articles on her experiences. Shyamali organized and attended many workshops of art and craft all over India. She is a true friend of art and artesian
in real sense. Her painting has a very spontaneous and warm, earthy feeling which easily touches the viewers, and the directness of her colour, form and
line moves on her canvas with magical spirituality.
