Culling Creativity
Milind Sathe, director, Indiaart Gallery, wants to give a boost to young talent, says Akshata Shetty

I meet so
many people, including artists and buyers. Every time it is a different person and you get to see new things they have created. I have always tried to bring out the best in others and hence I encourage young artists

AperSonality who believes in encouraging talented artists, Milind
Sathe is a gentleman who needs no introduction. This director of Indiaart Gallery is also a doting father, and is equipped with exceptional photography skills.

Morning cracker Up by 6-6.30 am, Sathe's most cherished morning activity involves sipping hot tea with his favourite cream cracker. He makes it a point to read the newspaper to catch up with what's happening in the world.

"I simply love the cream cracker!" he exclaims, adding, "I take a walk around my area (Bhosale Nagar), and sometimes go up to the campus of Vaikunt Mehta Institute. It's a great place for a morning walk," says Sathe. After a half hour walk, Sathe comes back

home for a lip-smacking breakfast. A complete foodie, Sathe's breakfast comprises typical Maharashtrian food like Pohe and sometimes the menu includes dosa, idli, fruits and dates.

A heavy tea drinker, Sathe doesn't mind having tea through the day. "I love tea. My wife is fond of coffee. So, if she gets up early, then it's filter coffee and incase I wake up before her, then • it's tea. So, at times, a small conflict arises as to what to choose," he laughs. When at home, he looks into certain documents and checks his mails. If time permits, he visits Deccan Gymkhana and plays a game of tennis. He says, "Tennis didn't come by choice. I had enrolled my son's name and would accompany him to the class. That's when the coach asked me to join. I've really started liking the game."

Art work

Depending on the tennis schedule, Sathe fixes his office hours. "If I am playing

tennis, I visit the gallery at 10.30 am, otherwise I get to work by 9.30 am. My workplace includes the gallery and my office - I have an

Internet Consulting Firm. I am mobile and you won't find me sitting in one place," he says.
Sathe believes that one

needs to motivate oneself, otherwise life gets boring and monotonous.
He loves meeting people and conducts meetings to interact with others. Says he, "I meet so many people, including artists and buyers. Every time it is a different person and you get to see new things they have created. I have always tried to bring out the best in others and hence I encourage young artists."

Dad's duties

Once Sathe reaches home at 8 or 9 pm, he makes sure to spend ample time with his son. He usually reads to him before he falls off to sleep. "Since we all meet only in the evening, we have dinner together and discuss things. We talk about how the day's activties. We leave social interactions for weekends. Since we aren't party animals, we're usually off to bed by 10.30 pm."
